Barbara Rahal Photography Introduction

I have been shooting destination weddings since 2001. Importantly, I like to describe myself as a visual storyteller. I shoot all the important moments and all the in-between ones too. So, I have a very photojournalistic approach to each event. I think what sets me apart may be that I do not only concentrate only on the couple. Meaning, I shoot a lot of what is happening around them too, their guests and their enjoyment during the celebration. After all, 20 years down the road you will want to remember who was there with you celebrating your first day as husband and wife, be it one or two people or 100.

Destination Weddings

I love so many things about destination weddings, mostly because it brings everyone together which is truly important to the couple. Happiness and love get spread all over for more than just a day. Everything tends to be more relaxed. The new scenery captivates not only the couple but their guests. Real quality time is spent amongst family and friends that create a lifetime of memories and new adventures for everyone who gets to attend. My absolute favorite place has been the island of Capri in Italy and Hawaii.

Advice

If I could advise future brides, I would say to keep it real, simple and do not stress over things you can not control, like the weather. Do not sweat the small stuff.

  1. Stay true to yourself and incorporate things that mean the most to you as a couple. Never lose sight of what the day is about, your love for each other and the start of a new path in life.
  2. Plan ahead so you can enjoy the time leading up to the big day.
  3. Delegate, hire professionals if your budget allows for it. Ask for help to create things you can do yourself. You will be surprised how much family and friends may want to be involved and create memories during the planning days. Make craft nights for anything you may want to create yourself, like writing your seating chart or place cards, making your wedding favours or decorating your thank you cards.
  4. Your wedding day marks a new chapter in your life; it is an experience, so choose to embrace and enjoy the day as it evolves no matter what and you will have a blast.
