Part 2 –\u00a0Kyle and Carmen<\/span><\/h2>
This week, we are catching back up with recent Liz Moore Destination Wedding couple, Kyle, and Carmen whose travel specialist was Keeley Dahl. Importantly, if you missed the first part of this segment, click here<\/a>. Moreover, this beautiful couple will be discussing the in’s and out’s of the wedding resort they chose for their destination wedding. Alright, let’s begin Destination Wedding Advice – Dreams La Romana!<\/p>
Dreams La Romana<\/span><\/h2>
Food<\/strong><\/h3>Firstly, there is the buffet and seven A La Carte Restaurants, none requiring reservations, and<\/div>
most of the food was fantastic. The buffet was great and always had a good variety. The<\/div>
Japanese Restaurant (Himitsu), the French Restaurant (Bordeaux), and the Seaside Grill<\/div>
were the favourites amongst myself and most of the guests.

The Jungle Restaurant\u00a0was the least favourite as far as food, although it was a neat atmosphere, and other than that\u00a0the food wasn\u2019t bad anywhere, just not as outstanding as the others. There is also a Pizzeria\u00a0by the main pool which is excellent and all made fresh, and there is the Coco caf\u00e9 near the\u00a0lobby that is open 24\/7 for snacks and coffee whenever you need something. Lastly, there is\u00a024\/7 room service, which was unfortunately quite slow to arrive (up to an hour and a half)\u00a0and usually cold, but it does the trick if you\u2019re starving.<\/div>

Drinks<\/strong><\/h3>The drinks and the bar service are a bit inconsistent. Some bartenders are extremely<\/div>
quick and efficient, while others almost seem to ignore guests. Although some drinks are so strong\u00a0you can barely drink them, and some you can\u2019t even tell there\u2019s any alcohol in them. The<\/div>
Veranda Bar was definitely the best service and drinks during our stay (Special Thanks to<\/div>
our favourite bartender Moreto!).<\/div>
\u00a0<\/div>
$\"Coconut\"$ <\/a><\/div>
Beach<\/strong><\/h3>The beach was beautiful, with plenty of chairs. It definitely fills up a bit in the late<\/div>
morning to afternoon, but even with a large group, we never had trouble finding enough<\/div>
chairs or space to set up somewhere together. They keep the beach spotlessly clean, the<\/div>
water is gorgeous and of course warm, and usually, the drink service on the beach was quite<\/div>
good.<\/div>
\u00a0<\/div>
$\"Beachpic\"$ <\/a><\/h3>
Activities<\/strong><\/h3>No shortage here! Many in the group took advantage of snorkelling just off shore and<\/div>
around the pier, which was apparently very good! Some went kayaking; some did the water<\/div>
aerobics and dance lessons on the beach that they have every day. There\u2019s volleyball on the\u00a0beach, and other sports like tennis, baseball and soccer fields a little further back on the\u00a0property that I never had a chance to check out. They\u2019ve got plenty of games like giant\u00a0chess, pool, ping pong and foosball tables, shuffleboard and a batting cage all easily<\/div>
accessible.<\/div>

$\"Coconut2\"$ <\/a><\/div>
\u00a0<\/div>
They seem to hold an event of some kind at least every other day, whether it\u2019s a\u00a0coconut or burger festival, karaoke, or a white party. They also have an indoor stage where\u00a0they hold a nightly show\u00a0– some shows were much better than others.<\/div><\/div><\/div>
\u00a0<\/div>
As a wedding gift, a couple of our guests bought us a\u00a0\u201cromantic dinner on the pier”,\u00a0which is something the resort does for couples every night in a few different spots. That was\u00a0by far the best dinner we had the whole trip, and incredible service by our waiter, Franklin.<\/div><\/div>

Excursions<\/strong><\/h3>There are many excursions available at many different price levels. We only did a\u00a0couple and were mostly happy with the value.<\/div>
<\/div>
Bayahibe<\/h4>
No payment necessary. Bayahibe is\u00a0a cute little local fishing town just a 10-minute walk down the beach from the\u00a0resort. There wasn\u2019t a lot to do there, but\u00a0we enjoyed it and felt it was worth seeing.\u00a0Of course the local have little tourist shops\u00a0set up all over trying to sell paintings and\u00a0trinkets. Most of the water excursions on\u00a0this side of the island seem to leave from\u00a0the Bayahibe marina, so there are many,\u00a0many boats coming and going in the\u00a0morning and evening.<\/div>
<\/div>
Catalina Island Snorkelling Trip<\/h4>
Kyle and I did this one alone. It\u2019s fun and nice just to hang out on the water for a\u00a0couple of hours, although there wasn\u2019t quite as much snorkelling involved as we expected for\u00a0how it was advertised. They take you out on a 40 person speed boat, and you jump off the\u00a0boat in a deep area for some incredibly beautiful snorkelling, but only for about 25 minutes or\u00a0so.<\/div>
\u00a0<\/div>
$\"Catamaran\"$ <\/a><\/div>
\u00a0<\/div>
Unfortunately the water there was so wavy and rough, it was hard to keep steady enough\u00a0to really enjoy it, as you have to wear a lifejacket, and it keeps pulling your head back up.\u00a0Definitely not for non-swimmers. They then take you on to Catalina Island for some\u00a0sandwiches and a bit more snorkel time in the shallow water, which was also fantastic, but\u00a0again, not that long. This was only a half-day excursion.<\/div>
<\/div>
Santo Domingo Tour<\/h4>
We did this one with a small group through our travel company, Transat. It was<\/div>
interesting, and lots of neat things to see but they are quite spread out. You get to see a<\/div>
range of things from Christopher Columbus\u2019\u00a0Lighthouse, and the palace of Columbus\u2019\u00a0son, to\u00a0the Parliament buildings and the first cathedral of the new world. You also get to have an\u00a0unbelievable lunch at one of the local restaurants (my favourite part), with a performance\u00a0by some of their dancers.<\/div>

Saona Island and Catamaran Trip<\/h4>
100% the highlight for most of our guests! This one was also organized by our<\/div>
Transat representative at the hotel. We had 40 people from our group, and Kyle and I got to<\/div>
go for free as a\u00a0\u201cwedding gift.\u201d<\/div>
\u00a0<\/div>

\u00a0<\/div>
We started on a large speedboat and stopped at the beautiful\u00a0\u201cblue lagoon\u201d\u00a0on the way to wade in the water with the starfish, and they bring around rum\u00a0and mix. After a while, we all got back on the boat and headed to Saona Island for the\u00a0afternoon and some lunch. They did an amazing buffet for us, and I\u00a0can\u2019t even describe how\u00a0beautiful the island was.<\/div>

Everyone swam and suntanned, and there were, of course, locals\u00a0there selling massages, lobster, and trinkets. There was an open rum bar again, which went\u00a0over very well with our group! A little tipsy, everyone then got on a big Catamaran for a 2-hour trip returning to the resort, with music blasting and drinks flowing. It was a fantastic\u00a0party; we would do it again in a heartbeat!!<\/div>
